EXT. HOTEL ROOFTOP - NIGHT

The door to the roof opens and BURN steps out. Close behind him is MELODY.

Melody

What's this?

Burn

The most private place in the hotel.

Melody just gives a little giggle.

Melody

And why did you bring me here?

Burn

To sing, of course.

Burn looks expectantly at Melody.

Burn

Ok.. sing.

Melody

(incredulously)

Really?

Burn

Yes. Sing.

Melody composes herself and begins singing All By Myself. (Alternatively, we can also use Juwita Suwito's Why Oh Why)

Melody

When I was young

I never needed anyone-

Burn

Chup. Mel, can you give it some more?

Melody

Some more?

Burn

Some more soul, baby.

Melody

You sound like Mac.

Burn

Don't insult me.

Melody

Actually, Mac says, with more feeling.

Burn

That's what I said, what. Just ah... like this.

Burn sings, with feeling, in an R&B sort of style.

Burn

When I was young

I never needed anyone

(raises eyebrows at Melody)

Makin' love was just for fun

These days are done.

Melody

"Gone".

Burn

Eh?

Melody

The word is "gone", not "done". And I don't think that's what Mac means by 'feeling'.

(beat)

I think he means to... well, really mean it.

Burn

Yeah, act like it is.

Melody

I think it's better if I really mean it.

Melody reaches out for Burn's hand. Burn is a little taken aback by this.

Burn

You sure you're not on drugs?

Melody

Didn't I say I've stopped.

Melody stares into Burn's eyes.

Melody

Hard to be sure

Sometimes I feel so insecure

And love so distant and obscure

Remains the cure

Melody's stare lingers. Burn slowly withdraws his hand.

Burn

That's really good.

Melody

But you won't be on stage with me tomorrow.
